I have never officially been diagnosed with perfectionism, and upon reading those words, many of you can probably relate with one thing or another that you have noticed in your life but never really bothered to be diagnosed with. But I believe that I experience it.
I have thought about starting something like a blog for maybe 2-3 years now. Be it a blog, an instagram, a youtube account, or some other project. However, fear, and wanting it to be perfect has largely kept me paralyzed. In fact, I got the bare bones of this blog going and then it took me about a month to actually make a post, because I kept putting roadblocks in my way.
Even as I am writing this now, I am reflecting on this morning’s anxiety as I pondered if I should start today. The thoughts, “but my house isn’t clean”, “my vacuum needs dealing with”, “I can start it next week as well”, “do I know how to use the camera properly”, “what workouts am I even doing today,” and more all poured in. While I am writing this I am thinking about how someone will read this and see every run-on sentence, spelling, grammar, and punctuation error and find it horrifying and unprofessional.
The point of my blog is to share with you my fears and imperfections and show you how I choose to press on anyway.
Today what helped me to press on anyway, was my reason behind this desire to start a blog, or my why. I recently spoke to a friend about wanting to start a blog like this, and she opened up to me about her personal mental and fitness struggles and commented how she would appreciate something like it. With her in mind, I decided, starting imperfectly is better than not starting at all.
That being said, today I share my imperfect workouts of yoga and weight lifting.
If you don’t have time to watch the video here is a brief synopsis: My dog interrupted me to get water and play. My muscles shook and I found myself struggling to balance in the Warrior 1 position. My stomach looked flabby as I bent for some of the stretches (it looked like a normal stomach but we don’t see those online too often). I, once again, could not relax in the pigeon pose but I made it through.
My weight lifting portion I decided to exercise my back muscles. I used fairly light weights as a lot of these workouts I haven’t done in a while or ever. I know I could have done more weight, but I really try to focus on form and on not burning out. If I have to constantly be going heavier and heavier weights, I end up not wanting to do them at all. So, I prefer easy and slow progression since that will bring me consistency.
That’s all for today. Enjoy the video!
